Donald Spillane
Donald R. "Don" Spillane, 47, of Cranberry Township sacrificed his life Friday in a heroic effort to rescue a young woman who had fallen from rocks at McConnells Mill State Park.
Born July 12, 1962, in Valley Stream, N.Y., he was the son of the late Donald James and Audrey (Henzel) Spillane.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Donna (Benkart) Spillane, who he married Aug. 27, 1983; two loving daughters, Dawn Marie Spillane of Cranberry Township and Dana Rae Bach of Butler; a son-in-law, Christopher Bach; a precious grandson, Christopher "C.J." Bach Jr.; a sister, Maureen Majors of Ellwood City; his mother-in-law, Germaine Benkart of Mars; 13 brothers and sister-in-laws; and 26 nieces and nephews.
Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather who adored his family, including his dog, "Dozer." He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, coaching his daughter's softball team, following the Steelers and Penguins, and more recently, fishing with his brother-in-laws and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Louise Henzel of Cranberry Township; and his paternal grandparents, Daniel and Mary Spillane of New York.
