James M. Byers

James Moore Byers, 88, of Corry Manor in Corry, Erie County, died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday at the manor after a long illness.

Born Aug. 3, 1918, in Fairview, he was the son of Earl H. and Stella Harmon Byers.

He was a graduate of The Butler Business College and owned and operated oil wells in Fairview for several years. He retired in 1981 from Pullman Standard, where he had worked since 1957.

Mr. Byers was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jerry W. (Sandra) Pyle of Union City, Erie County; two grandchildren, Mrs. Douglas (Christine) Burlingame of Lake City, Erie County, and Mrs. William (Marie) Shearer of Willoughby Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Curtis Burlingame of Lake City.

He also is survived by a brother and a sister, Robert Byers and his wife, Beverly, and Lois Helfrich and her husband, Richard, all of Fairview; and several nieces and nephews.

His wife, Mary Elizabeth Byers, whom he married May 14, 1943, died Aug. 22, 2006. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Waunetta Laughlin Hoover.

<B>BYERS </B>— Friends of James Moore Byers, who died Sunday, March 11, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Wallace, pastor of the Chicora Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, officiating.Burial will be at the Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
