SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A northern Butler County man is accused of intentionally ramming a pickup truck into the back of a car in a possible case of road rage, state police said.

No one was injured but the victim's vehicle, occupied by three people, was forced into a ditch on Harmony Road near Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township last weekend.

Shawn M. Bonetti, 43, of Forestville was arrested on felony assault and other charges. He remains free on $10,000 unsecured bail while awaiting a hearing in the case next month.

According to court documents, Bonetti was traveling south on Harmony Road on Dec. 30 when he “used his vehicle to ram into the rear end” of the victim's car.

The defendant allegedly accelerated, pushing the car forward on the snow-covered road. The other driver lost control and struck a ditch. The car sustained moderate damage.

Investigators said they believe Bonetti's 2010 Ford F-150 was traveling between 20 and 30 mph when he hit the car.

He drove away after the suspected deliberate crash but the other driver was able to provide police with the truck's license plate number.

Police later arrested Bonetti at his home. Authorities also recovered the truck, which the defendant does not own. It had damage to its front end.

The investigating trooper said he did not know what motivated Bonetti, but believed it could have been road rage. Police said he apparently did not know the three people in the car.

He was arraigned Dec. 31 on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, careless driving, reckless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and failing to stop and give information or render aid after an accident.

Bonetti's preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 14 at the office of District Judge William O'Donnell in Slippery Rock.

Online court documents did not indicate if he has an attorney and he did not immediately return a telephone call Friday.
