Donald E. Murrin, 88, of Washington Township passed away Sunday morning at the Chicora Medical Center following an illness.

Born in Cisco, Texas, July 11, 1921, he was the son of the late Arthur Paul and Blanche Wilson Murrin.

He was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at Murrinsville, a settlement west of Eau Claire named for Don's ancestors.

He entered World War II on Sept. 14, 1942, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Force on Sept. 5, 1944, at Mountain Home Air Field in Idaho.

Don was a life member and past commander of the Charles A. Black American Legion Post 598 of Parker. He also served on county and district levels with the Legion.

On March 15, 2010, he was awarded a Certificate of Continuous Membership for 60 years of service to Post 598 of the American Legion, Department of Pennsylvania. It was signed by National Commander Clarence E. Hill, and the certificate would have been awarded at the April meeting of the Legion Post 598 at Parker.

He retired from the Office of Personnel Management at Boyers.

Surviving are two sisters, Margaret Moser of Dallas, Texas, and Rose Mary Murrin of Butler; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Among relatives preceding him in death, most recently was his brother, Hugh Murrin in 2009, with whom he worked in carpentry in earlier years.

A blessing service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday during visitation by Father Jim Bodillion of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. A private burial will be held Thursday morning at St. Alphonsus Church Cemetery. A memorial Mass of Christian burial is tentatively set for 11 a.m. April 10 at St. Alphonsus Church.The American Legion Post 598 and the VFW Post 7073 of Parker will conduct a veteran's service at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.Information also is available at www.buzardfuneralhomes.com.
