10:15 p.m. Wednesday - A 33-year-old Butler man wanted on a warrant allegedly hid a suspected crack pipe under the seat of a car before being taken to prison.Police arrested Russell Neeley following a traffic stop on Mercer Street and placed him in a patrol car as they spoke with the driver of the vehicle in which the defendant was riding. Neeley, who was wanted on a bench warrant, was driven to the Butler County Prison.After arriving at the jail, police asked the defendant if he had placed anything in the patrol car; Neeley did not answer. An officer searched the car and found the metal crack pipe under the seat where Neeley had been seated.Police said a search of Neeley found him carrying a small baggie of suspected crack cocaine. He was placed in prison in connection with the warrant, and later charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

1:25 p.m. Wednesday - Political dirty trick or simple case of theft?Whatever the case, Marge Peifer of Main Street in Prospect reported someone took from her front yard a child's blackboard with the words "Kerry/Edwards" written in chalk.An apparent witness of the theft described the unknown suspect as a white man in his 20s, about 6 feet tall with a goatee, and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. The suspect got into a dark blue or black Chevrolet Blazer that was parked on Jefferson Street.Tuesday - Someone stole a solar light from a tombstone at the Eau Claire Cemetery in Venango Township. Gertrude McCall of Parker, owner of the stolen property, said the theft occurred between Aug. 21 and Tuesday.

10 p.m. Wednesday - Three suspected illegal aliens were arrested at Prime Outlets in Springfield Township, Mercer County.Police found the suspects, all from Mexico, at the retail mall complex where they were working for a building contractor. The suspects will remain in Lawrence County Prison until they are turned over to federal immigration authorities.
