Oesterling

Lois Ruby Oesterling, a longtime Butler resident, died Thursday evening in Roanoke, Va.

She was born in Prospect in 1916 and was the daughter of the late Willis E. Ruby and Della Weigle Ruby of Butler.

Lois was a longtime member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Eastern Star, the DAR and the Butler Country Club, where she was an excellent bridge player and an avid golfer.

Surviving are her three daughters and their husbands, Susan and Gilman Smith of Frisco, Colo., Karen and Michael Taylor of Moneta, Va., and Betsy and Ralph Grant of Shelton, Conn.; and one sister, Mrs. John V. (Ruth) Schweppe of Charlotte, N.C.

Lois leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren, Kimberly Smith Schorr, Stephanie Smith Salter, David Smith, Eric Taylor, Marc Taylor, Michelle Taylor Gibson, Abigail Grant Brennan, Jessica Grant Stanciu and Andrew Grant; 20 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, W. Clyde Oesterling, who passed away Jan. 9, 1994; one sister, Madeline Ruby Bixler; one brother, Eugene Ruby; two granddaughters, Lisa Taylor and Jennifer Taylor; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Salter.
