Boyle

John W. "Jack" Boyle, 83, formerly of Delaware Drive, died Wedn-esday at St. John's Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born April 1, 1923, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of John and Ann Ryan Boyle.

He graduated from St. Justin's High School in the Mt. Washington section of Pittsburgh and from Penn State University with a science degree.

Mr. Boyle retired from the state Department of Environmental Resources as a district supervisor after 35 years. He also worked for the state Department of Agriculture in the milk division, the Allegheny County Health Department, the Butler County Health Department, and the state Department of Health.

He was a veteran of the Army and served in World War II. He saw action in the Italian campaign with the 361st Infantry, 91st Division and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 249 in Butler. He also served as post quartermaster for 12 years.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Mr. Boyle was active in scouting, being cub master and scoutmaster at Pack 6 and Troop 6 at St. Paul Parish. He worked with the Catholic Daughters of America Drum Corps in putting on their annual shows. He was also involved in the Meridian Baseball program from Little League to Pony League and was a volunteer tutor in the Adult Literacy Program at Butler County Community College.

His wife, Mary Bert Boyle, whom he married Aug. 19, 1948, preceded him in death Dec. 26, 2005. An infant son, Michael Patrick Boyle, and a sister, Mary Teresa "Tessie" Boyle Cunningham, also preceded him.

He is survived by a son, John W. Boyle II and his wife, Karen Krom Boyle, of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Diane and her husband, Nick Szwez, of Seven Fields; a grandson, Patrick M. Szwez of Seven Fields; a brother, Thomas Boyle and his wife, Connie, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

<B>BOYLE — </B>Friends of John W. "Jack" Boyle, who died Wednesday Feb. 28, 2007, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.Graveside military honors will be accorded by members of VFW Post 249 Ceremonial Squad.
