Police: Suspect charged in 2021 incident where man jumped from window to avoid gun

A Pittsburgh man has been charged in connection with a nearly two-year-old incident where a man was injured when he jumped from a second-story window in Butler City to escape.

City police charged Johvian R. Everett, 24, Wednesday with felony aggravated assault and prohibited possession of a firearm, as well as misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

Police responded to reports of an injured man on West Jefferson Street on Oct. 18, 2021. Documents showed the man was flown to Allegheny General Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma for brain swelling and collapsed lungs.

According to the affidavit, Everett went to the West Jefferson Street apartment to confront the man who lived there.

A female witness reported that Everett and the man went into the bedroom, police said, and Everett began asking, “Where is my (redacted) money?” and “Where is my crack, bro?”

The man ran from the bedroom, but was prevented from leaving the residence by Everett’s brother. Everett then retrieved a black semi-automatic pistol from his brother, documents showed.

Police said Everett pointed the gun at the man and continued screaming that he wanted his money.

The man then ran to the bathroom, and was able to escape Everett by jumping from the second-story bathroom window, according to charging documents.

The female witness told police Everett then forced her into the bathtub. Police said Everett pointed a gun at her face and wanted to know where the money was.

Everett is not permitted to posses a firearm due to a previous criminal history of robbery and burglary, documents showed.

A preliminary hearing for Everett has not yet been scheduled.
