Butler City Council Wednesday night:
• Passed the first reading of an ordinance to increase the indebtedness of the city by taking out a $300,000 loan for street paving. The second reading and passage of the ordinance will occur at council’s May meeting.
• Renewed the Butler County-City Connoquenessing Creek Flood Control Authority for an additional 50 years.
• Appointed Dave Malarkey to the Butler County-City Connoquenessing Creek Flood Control Authority to fill the term of Ross Martin, expiring December 2013.
• Approved first reading of an ordinance extending the cable television franchise to Armstrong Utilities to provide cable, Internet and related services to city residents from Aug. 23, 2021, and Aug. 23, 2026.
• Approved the conditional hire of Jason Gallagher as a truck driver with the city streets department.
• Awarded the demolitions of buildings at 118 Hilltop Ave. and 438-440 Isabella St. to AP Wise Excavating for $5,645.
• Awarded the demolition of the building at 406 Zeigler Ave. to AP Wise Excavating for $4,200.
• Approved payment of $11,330 to AP Wise Excavating for the demolitions of buildings at 131-133 Morton Ave. and 247 Roosevelt Blvd., pending approval by the city code enforcement officer.
• Approved a resolution giving $19,500 to the Butler Transit Authority for fiscal year 2012-2013.
• Accepted a proposal from the Local Government Academy to study parking options and fee collections in Butler, with the $3,650 cost split between the city and the City of Butler Parking Authority. The parking authority, which meets at noon today, also must OK the proposal.
On Tuesday convening as the Board of Health, city council condemned these structures and ordered their demolition: 112 Cross St., 620 Eau Claire St. 112 Garfield Ave. 116 Gibson Street, 113 Sumner Ave. and 522 W. Brady St.
