GROVE CITY — Grove City College again has been recognized as a top conservative college in the country, according to the Young America's Foundation.
The foundation selects colleges because they encourage students to explore conservative ideas and authors.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Wayne Forbes, assistant professor of biology at Slippery Rock University, has been awarded a U.S. patent for his isolation of a compound that kills an often-fatal intestinal parasitic roundworm called "threadworm."This parasite, known as Strongyloides stercoralis, is found throughout the tropics.He did the work while at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, in Jamaica.Forbes joined the SRU faculty in 2003. He earned his doctorate in zoology and bachelor of sciences degree in zoology and botany at UWI in Jamaica.
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program will be offered at Slippery Rock University beginning in May.Registration for the first section of classes starts Saturday. Participants will need a motorcycle learner's permit to register.Class schedules are available online at www.pamsp.com.

Grove City — The Grove City College Republicans will sponsor a forum at the college for Republican candidates running for the 3rd Congressional District.The event will be at 7 p.m. March 25 in the Schict Auditorium of the Hall of Arts and Letters.All six Republicans seeking the nomination, Mike Kelly, Paul Huber, Dr. Martha Moore, Ed Franz, Clayton Grabb, and Steve Fisher plan to attend.The event will be moderated by Michael Coulter, a professor of political science and the adviser for the Grove City College Republicans, and Andrew Patterson, chairman of the Grove City College Republicans.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock Area Parks and Recreation will have youth soccer beginning April 19 for 4- and 5-year-olds, and April 20 for 6- through 8-year-olds.The program is noncompetitive and is designed to teach the fundamentals of the game.Sessions will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for 4- and 5-year-olds, and from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for 6- through 8-year-olds.Contact the park at 724-794-8180 for information.
