Narcan available at government center
Naloxone, or Narcan, is now available at the Butler County Government Center.
The Butler County commissioners approved Wednesday, June 3, the placement of about seven naloxone kits near AED devices in the government center.
“The government center and courthouse receive hundreds of visitors each day, and so we want to make Narcan more accessible in case of an emergency situation, and we also want to ensure that it is available for anyone who wants/needs it,” said Donna Jenereski, the director of drug and alcohol programs in the county.
Each naloxone box has three sealed Narcan kits, gloves and a breathing barrier for CPR. Butler County Human Services will maintain the boxes.
The initiative to place Narcan in the government center was spearheaded by the Butler County Opioid Overdose Coalition and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. It’s funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
Butler County Human Services also provides naloxone and training to treatment providers, community organizations and businesses.
