Dr. Lawrence C. Miller

Dr. Lawrence Courtney Miller, 84, of Tecumseh, Mich., formerly of Delmont, passed away peacefully Monday in Excela Health Hospice, Jeannette, with family at his side.

He was born Dec. 7, 1925, in Radebaugh, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, a son of the late John S. and Rhoda (Courtney) Miller.

Lawrence was an educator. He received his bachelor's degree from California (Pa.) University, his master's from Kent State University and his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.

He began his career teaching high school and continued his career as a professor of technology at Butler County Community College.

He was a veteran of World War II, having proudly served with the Army Air Corps 492nd Bombardment Squadron as a Sperry ball gunner. Lawrence earned the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Robert Miller.

Lawrence will be greatly missed and is survived by his loving family, his devoted wife of 28 years, Dr. Patricia Ann Kenney; his children from a previous marriage to Ann H. Miller of Greensburg, Douglas Lawrence Miller and his wife, Susan, of Sarasota, Fla., Deborah Ann Hoffman and her husband, William, of Las Vegas, Russell John Miller and his wife, Cathy, of Parsippany, N.J., Gregory Brugh Miller of Blairsville and Stephen George Miller and his wife, Lynnette, of New Alexandria; and sisters, Marjorie M. Vogel of Holland, Pa., and Isabel M. Elder of Greensburg. He was the proud grandfather of three wonderful grandchildren, Alexandra Miller, Ilyssa Miller and Joshua Miller.

<B>MILLER</B> — Family and friends of Dr. Lawrence Courtney Miller, who died Monday, June 14, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the <B>Vaia FUNERAL HOME</B>, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. Funeral services for Lawrence will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor S. Cyril Hurnyak of Zion Lutheran Church, Penn Hills, officiating. Interment, with full military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 981 Honor Guard, South Greensburg, will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Dr. Lawrence C.
