10:34 p.m. Friday — Shawn Hartzell, 36, of Butler was hurt when his bicycle struck the side of a car on North Main Street. Following the collision, Hartzell "flew over the hood" of the 1999 Mazda Protege driven by Tracy Sellers, 41, of Butler, according to a police report.Hartzell, who complained of left ankle pain, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.Sellers told police she did not see Hartzell, who was wearing dark clothing; his bike also was not equipped with a headlight. No charges were filed.
10: p.m. Friday — A Butler man wanted on a drug charge out of Kentucky was arrested on Route 356 at the Route 28 South ramp. The fugitive, Matthew Alexander Worry, no age given, was placed in the Butler County Prison.Friday — Assorted items were taken from an unspecified number of cars that were broken into overnight on Woodbury and Woodhaven drives and Doyle Road. The items stolen included at least one cell phone, keys and an XMSatellite Radio.Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call police at 724-295-9500.9:27 p.m. Aug. 17 — Lori Moore, no age given, of Jefferson Township was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Sarver Road.
Friday — Sixteen people were cited for underage drinking during roving patrols throughout the county targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.Police said 42 vehicles were stopped and 10 traffic and two nontraffic tickets issued. One person was cited for public drunkenness.
1:30 p.m. Saturday — An Allegheny County resident is suspected of cutting down several trees, without the owner's permission, in the front lawn of a New Castle Road home in Worth Township. Police said Miriam Goerk, 59, of Tarentum was cited for criminal mischief.1:35 a.m. Saturday — Mark Nash Jr., 18, of Slippery Rock was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Harmony and Keister roads in Slippery Rock Township.1:34 a.m. Saturday — Jessica Botinovich, 23, of New Brighton, Beaver County, was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Main Street in Slippery Rock.4:26 a.m. Friday — An unknown burglar forced open a window and broke into an office at Kennedy Diversified on Route 8 in Slippery Rock Township. Police did not yet know if any property was taken.2 a.m. Friday — An unknown vehicle struck a mailbox along Route 422 near Lesney Lane in Connoquenessing Township and did not stop following the crash.12:41 a.m. Friday — Erik Hertzog, 31, of North Huntingdon, Westmoreland County, swerved her car to avoid a deer and struck a ditch on Route 8 near Nursery Park in Middlesex Township. The car ended on its roof. Hertzog suffered minor injuries.Friday — Someone between 5 and 8:15 p.m. tried to break into a Main Street home in Bruin. No entry was made at the home of Christopher Nass.Friday — An unspecified amount of money was taken in a burglary at VicNor Farms on Harmony Road in Connoquenessing Township. The break-in occurred between 5 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 a.m. Friday.7:22 p.m. Thursday — Asport utility vehicle driven by Abraham McClain, 19, of Cheswick, Allegheny County, crashed and rolled onto its roof on Kohlmeyer Road in Washington Township. Police said McClain was cited for driving too fast for conditions.5:32 p.m. Thursday — An SUV driven by Nathan Moser, 20, and a pickup truck driven by Rebecca Hindman, both of Parker, collided on Route 38 in Washington Township. Police said both drivers were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.Aug. 17 — Someone between Aug. 15 and 17 fired a BBgun at a 16-foot travel trailer on Centerville Pike in Slippery Rock Township. The trailer, owned by Richard Hulings of Slippery Rock, was hit four times.12:05 a.m. Aug. 16 — Clair Greenway, 31, of Slippery Rock was arrested for suspicion of DUI at Eagle Mill and Ragan roads in Connoquenessing Township.9:30 a.m. Aug. 13 — Charges are pending against a man, who police did not identify, suspected of throwing a hard object at a car during an apparent case of road rage on Dinnerbell Road in Jefferson Township. The object struck the hood of the car driven by Edward Myers of Saxonburg.
1:30 p.m. Friday — Acar driven by Robert Wilson II, 18, of New Castle struck the rear of a sport utility vehicle on Route 68 in Clarion Township. Police said Wilson was cited for careless driving. Lorraine Krelko, 19, of Parker was driving the SUV.
8 a.m. Sunday — Abicycle was found on Route 38 in the Mineral Springs parking lot in Emlenton. The owner can claim the bike by contacting the station at 814-676-6596.
1:38 a.m. Saturday — A 17-year-old boy was arrested for suspected drunken driving after his car struck a tree at Route 268 and Pine Street in East Franklin Township. The boy, who police did not identify, ran from his wrecked car but was found a short time later.Police said the teen, in addition to driving under the influence, faces numerous other charges, including driving without license and without insurance, speeding, hit-and-run and reckless driving.Saturday — Avandal or vandals are suspected of hurling wet toilet paper at passing vehicles on Route 268 north of Frogtown Road in Sugarcreek Township. One of the wet wads of toilet papers apparently hit a vehicle occupied by David and Laura Johns of Chicora.Apolice report noted that some of the toilet paper also contained rocks.2:05 a.m. Aug. 18 — An elderly Manorville woman was hurt when the car she was driving crashed on Route 28 near Exit 17 in South Buffalo Township.Giovanna Neupert, 77, had to be cut free from the wreckage of her 1989 Cadillac Deville. Amedical helicopter flew her to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with moderate injuries to the neck, left shoulder and hand; her condition was not known this morning.Police said Neupert, who was wearing a seat belt, lost control of her car, which struck an embankment and rolled onto its roof. The crash closed a portion of the road for about 90 minutes.
11:05 p.m. Friday — Cars driven by Nicholas Dummar, 22, and Matthew Murdock, 34, both of Grove City, collided on Route 58 in Pine Township. Police said Dummar was cited for failing to yield.11:10 p.m. Saturday — An unknown white man tried to rob the Kwik Fill convenience store on West Main Street Extension in Pine Township.Police said the would-be robber accosted an employee who had just closed the store for the night. The man brandished a screwdriver and tried to force the employee, a 49-year-old Slippery Rock woman, to reopen the store.The attempted robbery failed and the man left empty-handed. The woman apparently was not hurt.The suspect is described as between 5 feet, 7 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He was wearing a camouflage head net.
Saturday — Police reported that a pressure washer, chain saw and air compressor were stolen this month in a burglary at two buildings on Mill Bridge Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Warren Reagle of Ellwood City owns the stolen property.
