Man charged with aggravated assault after city stabbing
Following an argument over a text message and a fight between four people, a man from McKees Rocks was accused of a stabbing in Butler.
Butler City police said that on Wednesday, Antoine F. Funes, 18, was charged with felony aggravated assault. He was arraigned before District Judge William T. Fullerton and placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond.
According to the investigating officer, police responded to a reported stabbing at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday. The vicitm’s mother told police that a white SUV showed up at their residence and three people began a fight with her son, resulting in his injuries. The victim’s mother told police she took her son to the hospital for medical treatment.
Police said they interviewed two witnesses, one of whom was the driver of the white SUV. The driver told police she and a group of people were hanging out when a altercation began over text message.
According to the affidavit, Funes took the phone and began engaging in the fight.
“The altercation then escalated to the point that (the driver took the group) to engage in a physical altercation,” the investigating officer wrote. “(The driver) advised that Funes asked her if she had a knife, to which she said ‘yes.’”
Funes told the driver that he took the knife in the vehicle’s center console for protection, according to documents.
Police said when the group arrived at the residence in the Island neighborhood, three people, including Funes, exited and began a fight with someone at the residence.
When Funes returned to the parked vehicle, he told the driver he stabbed someone, police said.
Funes and one of the others were taken into custody around 3 a.m. Wednesday. Police said Funes denied any involvement in the incident.
Funes will appear for a preliminary hearing before Fullerton on Monday, Oct. 24.
