Measles case confirmed in Allegheny County
A person who recently visited UPMC Children’s Hospital Emergency Department has tested positive for measles, the Allegheny County Health Department announced Thursday, Aug. 20.
According to a news release from the department, the individual is not from Allegheny County but is currently isolating. The department did not provide details about the individual due to privacy reasons.
The person visited UPMC Children’s Hospital on both Aug. 12 and Aug. 18. UPMC will be calling patients who have been identified as exposed on those two days with further instructions, the department said.
“ACHD advises any individual in the exposure area who does has not had two doses of the Measles, Mumps, Rubella Vaccine to call their healthcare provider for next steps. It is very important for individuals who think they may have been exposed to not directly go to a healthcare facility without calling ahead,” the department said.
According to the state Department of Health, 340 people across Pennsylvania have been diagnosed with measles this year as of Aug. 19, 2026.
Pennsylvania residents who are concerned about a potential exposure are recommended to call the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s toll-free hotline at 877-724-3258.
