1:15 a.m. today — James R. Hays, 31, of Butler Township faces drug charges following a traffic stop on Roosevelt Boulevard.Police said Hays was pulled over for an expired registration. While speaking to the suspect, an officer noticed on the front passenger seat a plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana and a marijuana pipe.Hays, police said, is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, as well as driving with a suspended license and without valid registration.1:37 a.m. Monday — Eric E. Angerett, 29, of Butler was arrested after police were called for a report of a man ransacking cars on Butler's West End.Officers allegedly caught Angerett in the act of using a straightened coat hangar to get into one car. He was taken to the station where he admitted to breaking into vehicles."Ihad too much to drink,"the defendant told officers, according to a police report, "and started thinking about the $800 in fines that I owe and I don't have the money because I have a kid on the way."Angerett said he broke into three vehicles, including a car on North Street. He allegedly took a stereo from that car.Angerett is charged with possessing instruments of crime, theft from a vehicle and criminal mischief.Monday — Police charged Matthew J. Kapp, 21, ofCenter Township with forgery for allegedly using a personal check of a Butler woman to withdraw $500 from her bank account on Sept. 1.Monday — An unidentified vehicle struck a car parked on East Brady Street, and the unknown driver did not stop following the crash. The entire left side of the car, owned by Brian Reddinger of Butler, was damaged.Sunday — Michael Paul Jason Chute, 30, of Butler is accused of robbing a Westmoreland County man while at the Brick House on North Main Street.Police said Chute asked the 42-year-old victim for change for a $50 bill. Chute moments later snatched from the man's hand two $20 bills and a $10 bill and took off running, a police report said.Two people outside recognized the fleeing suspect, who was charged Monday with a third-degree felony count of robbery.Wednesday — Blaine Hamilton, 24, of Butler is accused of using her mother's bank debit card to make eight unauthorized cash withdrawals from two automated teller machines in the city.Police said Hamilton admitted to making the withdrawals, which totaled $563. She is charged with a third-degree felony count of access device fraud.Meanwhile, the defendant's brother, Desmond Best, 27, of Butler, is accused of misdemeanor access device fraud for allegedly using the same debit card to withdraw a total of $183 from the victim's account.Butler Twp Police10:30 p.m. Saturday — Clifford D. Booher, 27, of Butler is accused of assaulting his estranged wife at Frisco's Bar and Grill in Days Inn on Route 8 South.The victim, Tashina Booher of Butler, told police she was in the bar and had walked out of the front door to make a cell phone call when the defendant appeared and threatened to kill her if she left him, according to court documents.She stated that she "did not no where (Booher) came from and that she did not arrive at the bar with him,"according to a police affidavit.Booher allegedly punched his wife numerous times in the face and head. Police said the woman suffered swelling below the eyes and bruising of her nose and forehead.The defendant is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment.10 p.m. Saturday — An unknown driver in a white, older model Ford Ranger pickup truck with a stripe on it sideswiped a mailbox along Saw Mill Run Road, and did not stop following the crash. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.3:58 p.m. Saturday — Three people were uninjured after their 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier caught fire on Route 422 between Routes 8 and 68.Police said the fire ignited in the dashboard compartment of the eastbound car driven by Cinthia Coleman, 17, of Kittanning. Coleman, and two passengers were able to get out safely but could not put out the flames that quickly engulfed the car.Mercer Road and Greenwood Village volunteer firefighters were called and put out the blaze. The eastbound lanes were closed for a brief period until the fire was extinguished.Wednesday — Stacie Tucker, 40, of Butler was cited for trespassing at the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons.
11:09 a.m. Monday — An elderly Venango County man was hurt in a four-vehicle crash at a red light at Route 8 and MercerRoad in Center Township.The crash occurred when a pickup truck driven by George Pilszak Sr., 78, of Franklin struck the rear of a car driven by Louann Kennedy, 41, of Evans City, which in turn was pushed into the rear of a car driven by Michael V. Pry, 45, of Butler.Troy Bruner, 41, of Kittanning saw the crash behind him and pulled his pickup onto the west berm of Route 8 in the southbound lane; however, his truck also was struck in the chain-reaction accident.Police said Pilszak, who suffered minor injuries, was cited for careless driving.Monday — Police reportedly charged three men for allegedly altering work order documents connected to services provided between July 21 and Aug. 22 while employed by Hindman Moving Co. in Forward Township.Charged in the case with theft, conspiracy and forgery, police said, are Timothy J. Bureau, 22, of Worthington, Armstrong County; Ryan Lee Cleaver, 22, of Evans City and William A. Negley, 25, of Chicora.Monday — Samuel Myers, 19, of Sligo, Clarion County, faces charges of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing in January four chrome wheels and tires from a Butler man on Mitchell Hill Road in Summit Township.Sept. 13 — An unknown thief stole a Sears riding lawnmower and a steel chair from the North Washington Road home of Richard J. Campbell in Washington Township.12:30 p.m. Sept. 11 — Three girls were cited for harassment following a pair of fights at Moniteau High School in Cherry Township. In one incident, two 17-year-old Chicora area girls are charged. In the other, a 17-year-old Chicora girl is accused of fighting with a 16-year-old Butler boy.Meanwhile, on Sept. 2 in another fight at the high school, a 15-year-old Karns City boy is charged with harassment for fighting with another 15-year-old Karns City boy.
Sunday — A Pine Township house was burglarized twice between Sept. 6 and Sunday. Stolen from the Lake Drive home of Patricia Carlson were three plastic containers containing about $800 in change, a Gateway lap top computer valued at $1,500 and a Sony PlayStation game system worth about $290.
