Sunday — James Matthews of Evans City told police that someone overnight tried to steal his Chevrolet Caprice parked on McClain Avenue. He said he found the car in the middle of the alley with its steering column busted out. The attempted theft occurred between 10 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday.10:33 p.m. Saturday — Gregory Parker of Chicora reported that a global positioning system unit valued at $310 was stolen from his car in the Butler Memorial Hospital parking garage on East Brady Street. The unknown thief broke a window to get into the car. Parker said $30 in currency also was taken.Saturday — Someone overnight fired yellow paintballs at Debra Clarke’s East Fulton Street home.Friday — An unknown vandal broke out two store front windows at a West Cunningham Street business owned by Ralph Smith. Damage was estimated at $1,000.
Sunday — An unknown burglar pried open a rear door and stole a laptop computer from a Suburban Lane home in Slippery Rock Township The break-in occurred between noon and 2 p.m.11:52 a.m. Saturday — Two youths face theft-related charges after Christopher L. Crawford caught them running from his sport utility vehicle at his Main Street home in Petrolia. State police, aided by local residents, nabbed the boys, 12 and 15 years old, who are accused of taking unspecified items totaling about $300 from Crawford’s SUV.A police report said the boys also confessed to several other thefts from vehicles in the Eau Claire area.4 a.m. Saturday — A rear window was broken and a gas grill damaged at a Woodbridge Drive apartment in Slippery Rock Township. Damage was estimated at $400.Saturday — Nine people were arrested for driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint operation on Route 356 in Butler Township. In all, 267 vehicles were stopped during the overnight checkpoint.1:04 a.m. Saturday — Brian Michael Stutz, 21, of Cabot was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Herman Road in Summit Township.12:02 a.m. Saturday — Ronald Lutz, 64, of Slippery Rock was arrested for DUI after nearly hitting a police cruiser at Route 422 and Worth Road in Franklin Township.8:45 a.m. Friday — A youth, who police did not identify, is accused of stealing a truck on Daubenspeck Road in Bruin. Fawn Energy Inc., of Petrolia owns the truck.Friday — A 40-inch Panasonic LCD television and Sony DVD/compact disc player was stolen in a burglary between 8:15 a.m. and 7 p.m. from a Queens Court Lane home in Clay Township.Thursday — A 13-inch Sanoma TV was stolen in a break-in at a David Road home in Oakland Township. The burglary occurred between 6:30 and 10 p.m.Wednesday — Several unspecified tools were stolen from a field on Conerty Road near Rattigan Road in Donegal Township. The theft occurred between March 20 and Wednesday. William Northime of Chicora owns the stolen tools, which are used to work on oil and gas wells.Wednesday — Someone between 5:20 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday stole two mailboxes along Hasenflu Road in Parker Township.March 18 — A Barron Road home in Worth Township was reportedly burglarized. Police did not immediately say what, if anything, was taken.
12:25 a.m. March 21 — A motorcycle driven by Franklin D. Evans, 45, of Ellwood City crashed and slid on its side on Route 65 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Police said Evans, who suffered minor injuries, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.March 18 — A would-be burglar tired to break into a Shaw Road home in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The unknown suspect failed to get inside the house despite breaking a window and trying to force open the back door. The attempted burglary occurred March 17 or 18.
4:47 p.m. Sunday — Two people were hurt when a car driven by Justin V. McBride, 19, of Grove City struck an embankment and rolled onto its side on Route 318 in East Lackawannock Township. McBride and John P. Boozell, 23, of Grove City, a passenger, suffered minor injuries. Police said McBride was cited for driving too fast for conditions.11:50 a.m. Friday — A box truck driven by Frederick W. Lapp, 51, of Grove City collided with a tractor trailer while making a U-turn on Interstate 80 in Shenango Township. Police said Lapp was cited for illegal crossing a highway. Steven McPherson, 44, of Piqua, Ohio, was driving the rig.
