The Clarks Mills man charged with DUI in a crash Wednesday, Aug. 12, that killed an Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District teacher and a Butler man lost his wife and two children in April in a Stoneboro house fire.

Aric Abrams, 47, was driving under the influence when he sideswiped the vehicle of Sandra Marwick, 68, which led her to strike the vehicle of Luke Mulford, 29, on Sandy Lake Grove City Road in Worth Township, Mercer County.

Marwick and Mulford were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said Abrams refused a blood test but said he drank alcohol the previous night and had used cocaine within the last two days. Abrams was charged with two felony counts each of homicide by vehicle while DUI and homicide by vehicle, misdemeanor DUI and four summary traffic violations. He’s being held in Mercer County Jail on a $100,000 bail.

Abrams had faced hardship as recently as four months ago when his wife and two children died April 16 in a Stoneboro house fire. In the fire, Malinda Abrams, 48, Amelia Abrams, 16 and Leroy Abrams, 12, were discovered dead in the Walnut Street home after the fire was out.

Libonati said all three deaths were accidental and caused by smoke inhalation due to the fire. There was nothing to suggest foul play, he said.

State police fire marshals were investigating the cause of the fire. Three dogs, a bunny and a bird were also killed, according to a GoFundMe started after the fire.

The GoFundMe had raised $28,293 of its $30,000 goal.
