JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley 2020 graduates Claira Matthews and Madison Geis were recently recognized by the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT).

Claira and Madison were selected as 2020 National Certificate of Distinction recipients of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing.

They were recognized for their computing-related aspirations and for their demonstrated, outstanding aptitude and interest in information technology and computing; solid leadership ability; good academic history; and their plans for post-secondary education.

The Western and Central PA affiliate of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing is a collaborative effort by volunteers from Saint Francis University; Penn State University, New Kensington; University of Pittsburgh; Carnegie Mellon University, and All Clear Translations.

Isabella Valentino, a graduate of Butler High School, majoring in pre-medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, was selected by Clearview Federal Credit Union to receive a $1,500 Ralph B. Canterbury Scholarship.

Scholarship recipients represent a diverse group of outstanding student leaders from the greater Pittsburgh area.

Since its inception, the annual Ralph B. Canterbury Scholarship has provided over $200,000 to students across Southwestern Pennsylvania. The scholarships are named in honor of Ralph B. Canterbury, former credit union president, for his service and loyalty during his 34-year tenure.

Recipients were chosen based on their personal goals, activities and community involvement, outstanding academic performance, and an essay on why they choose to belong to Clearview.

Two Seneca Valley High School graduates were selected to each receive $2,000 John O. Hanna Scholarship Awards from the Northwest Bancshares Inc. Charitable Trust.

Patrick Uher, a 2017 graduate, is attending the University of Pittsburgh.

Colin Uher, a 2019 graduate, is attending the University of Pittsburgh.

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist the children of Northwest Bank employees and its affiliates.
