Ralph W. Christie Sr.
Ralph W. Christie Sr., 90, of Butler died Monday morning in the comfort of his home.
Born Oct. 8, 1924, in Hooker, he was a son of the late Richard N. Christie and Bernice (Rider) Christie, also Edna (Dobson) Christie.
Ralph worked as a supervisor in the coil warehouse for the Armco Steel Plant in Butler for 43 years, retiring in 1987, and he also worked installing kitchens for Moyer's Custom Kitchens. He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the Esquire Club, the Century Club, the American Legion Post 117 and the VFW Post 249. He enjoyed hunting, dancing, traveling and going to camp Bonniebrook in Kane, Pa.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and receiving the French Legion Chevalier Medal.
Surviving is his wife, Lauretta C. (Geibel) Christie, who he married Aug. 30, 1949; five children, Ralph W. (Susan) Christie Jr. of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Denise A. (Ralph) Geibel of Butler, Diane L. Christie of Butler, Darlene A. (Robert) Hodgkiss of Butler and Dawna L. (Anthony) Lyngarkos of Northeast, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, Christie (Jesse) Rudolph, Sean (Tasha) Geibel, Holly (Joseph) Callihan, Jennifer (Victor) Metzler, Patrick (Lisa) McCloskey, Richelle (Adam) McLean, Leah (Frank) Hartle, Bobbie Ann Hodgkiss, Tyler Lyngarkos and Chelsea Lyngarkos; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Linda) Christie of Butler; and one sister, Delores Wagoner of Torrance, Calif.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gale and Paul Christie.
CHRISTIE — Friends of Ralph W. Christie Sr., who died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St.Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler.St. Peters Womens Council will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at the church to recite the rosary.Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
