Monday — Paul W. Butler Jr., 56, of Butler was charged with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a one-vehicle, hit-and-run wreck last month at Butler and South Duffy roads.

Police said Butler about 4 p.m. May 27 lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a chain-link fence. Afterward, according to court documents, he called a relative, who picked him up and took him home.

He arrived at his house just before police got there. He subsequently failed field sobriety tests, documents said, and a portable breath test device indicated he had alcohol in his system.

Butler was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.183 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

Police noted that a later inventory search of the pickup turned up an open can of beer.

Butler is charged with driving under the influence, careless driving, hit-and-run and driving with an open container of alcohol.
