CENTER TWP — Authorities are looking for an Allegheny County man who managed to get away from police last week, in separate chases in two counties.

Benjamin J. Kostka, 36, of Natrona Heights is wanted on an arrest warrant in connection with his getaway from state police about 4 a.m. Jan. 30 in Center Township.

About 2½ hours earlier, according to court documents, he managed to speed away from Cheswick police in Allegheny County.

State police said they came upon Kostka after being called at 3:53 a.m. for a vehicle parked on Route 308 in Center Township. He appeared “extremely nervous,” police said, when a trooper asked why he was parked on the road.

While the trooper was standing near the driver's side window trying to obtain information for his investigation, Kostka sped away in his pickup truck.

Police chased the truck for about one mile before terminating the pursuit.

Troopers would not learn until later of the earlier chase involving the defendant about 1:30 a.m. in Allegheny County.

He is charged in Butler County with fleeing or attempting to elude police, a misdemeanor, and illegally parking on a road, a summary.
