Rose Grossman

Grossman

Rose Marie Grossman was welcomed to the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, April 22, 2022.

She was the beloved daughter of the late John Wilson Conrad and the late Ida Portman Conrad. She was the cherished granddaughter of the late Joseph Henry Conrad and Mary Ann Thornton Conrad. She was especially proud of her grandfather, who was actively engaged in 56 battles and engagements of the Civil War. He was in the 1st Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 2nd division, West Virginia Cavalry, under General Custer and General Capeheart. Her grandfather was present at General Lee’s surrender at Appomatox and received the Metal of Honor for bravery in Washington, D.C.

Her maternal grandparents were the late Charles J. and Annie Killmeyer Portman of Butler.

Rose Marie was born on a sunny Sunday afternoon, July 29, 1928, at the homestead farm near Herman, Summit Township. She was raised with strong values and frugality, and a deep Catholic faith.

She met her loving husband, the late Kenneth John Grossman, at the SVF “Crystal Ball” dances in Saxonburg. Their love of dancing led to winning several first prize trophies in jitterbug contests. They married in July 1948 and enjoyed 62 years together until his death on Jan. 25, 2011. Rose Marie retired from the accounting department at PPG Industries after more than 22 years of efficient service.

She was a staunch Civil War history buff, traveling in their motorhome, retracing her grandfather’s battle history. She enjoyed golfing, attending reunions and family parties, and most of all, her loving family. She was known for her love of writing letters and sending beautiful cards on all occasions.

Rose Marie was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph R.C. Church in Cabot.

As a young lady, she received many ribbon prizes for her achievements in Herman 4-H Clubs.

She was the devoted mother of Jon Kenneth Grossman, of Saxonburg, Lynda Sue (Joseph) Fularz, of Lower Burrell, and Karen Joyce Leibowitz (Gregory Morvick), of Tarentum; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her beloved husband and great granddaughter, Keeley B. Fularz, and her four brothers and seven sisters.
