Emergency crews used Narcan to revive three suspected overdose victims in Butler during a six-hour period Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

The overnight rescues came just a day after first-responders saved five apparent OD victims in the city with the same opiate antidote drug.

For the second consecutive day, Joelle J. Lees, 34, of Butler, one of the patients treated Tuesday, overdosed about 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, Butler police said.

Authorities found her unconscious on a sidewalk on West North Street — across from the City Building.

A friend who was walking with Lees called 911 to report she was unresponsive. Butler firefighters and Butler Ambulance Service medics responded along with police.

“She was breathing, barely,” said police Deputy Chief David Adam.

Crews administered Narcan, which awakened Lees. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

Police cited her for public drunkenness.

Authorities said Lees also succumbed to an overdose shortly before midnight Tuesday at her apartment in the 300 block of Virginia Avenue.

She got a dose of Narcan and regained consciousness. Police said she admitted to ingesting a bag of heroin.

Police also cited Nicholas J. Campbell, 34, of Butler for public drunkenness after he overdosed about 1:45 a.m. Thursday outside his Mercer Street home.

Rescuers were called after a girl, who happened to be up, looked out the window of her nearby home and noticed Campbell lying on the ground.

It took “several doses” of Narcan to revive him, Adam said. Campbell refused further medical treatment.

Less than 25 minutes later, crews again had to administer Narcan, this time to 26-year-old Blue Jean-Marie Kerry, who apparently overdosed at her home on Mackey Avenue.

Police said they found the woman unresponsive on the front porch.

Kerry's boyfriend told authorities that he found her lying in the shower and carried her outside, Adam said. The reason for his action was not immediately clear.

Upon regaining consciousness, she denied using heroin, Adam said, but admitted taking a morphine tablet. She was subsequently taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.
