By September 2009, Ken and Maxine Tack had been riding for eight years with their Yorkshire terrier, Charlie, who traveled more than 100,000 miles secured in a pouch on Maxine's chest.

As members of the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education and a Christian motorcycle group, the Chicora couple exposed Charlie to many riders, who included her in their social calendars.

“She actually got an invitation to a wedding,” Ken said.

Bikers said the appeal of bringing their dogs on rides is tied to the personalities of their pooches, who seek out the activity rather than succumb to coercion.
