Sandra Jane “Sandy” Glenn

Sandra Jane “Sandy” Glenn

Sandra Jane “Sandy” Glenn, 77, of Butler, formerly of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away Thursday at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Omaha, Neb., a daughter of the late Charles T. Weatherford and Orley F. (Ryan) Weatherford.

Sandy graduated in 1957 from Osceola High School in Osceola, Iowa. She played on the girls' basketball team. Sandy also bowled in women's leagues and substituted on men's leagues at times. With the women, she went to state and national tournaments.

After high school, she attended Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minn. She worked as a hospital lab technician in Albert Lea, Minn. During Sandy's working years she had many varied jobs. But the position she loved most was being a mom to her three children, Mike, Mark and Michele.

When life changed, Sandy took on the challenge of more schooling and Christian outreach and service. She graduated summa cum laude as valedictorian from Kingsway Christian College and Theological Seminary in Des Moines, Iowa.

She served on area and state boards for International Women's Aglow in Iowa. She also served on area boards in Pennsylvania, once again holding different leadership offices and helping when needed.

Sandy had a personal encounter with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the 1970s. Being born again and spirit-filled, she embraced the relationship and services required to be a true disciple of the living God. From the commitment to being a Christian witness, she worked in the Urbandale, Iowa, school system in a clerical position. Then she went to the Door of Faith Missions in Des Moines, Iowa, as a financial secretary.

Sandy enjoyed using her computer to stay in touch with family and friends, Christian leaders in various organizations and Bible courses for up-to-date teachings and daily encouragement.

She had a talent for hard work. Many pieces of cross stitch and appliqué in her home show her abilities. She also made many quilts and table runners for family and friends. Some of her pieces won awards of which she was very proud.

Sandy was a member of the Victory Christian Center in New Wilmington, Pa. She attended small groups for women, Kindred Spirits, and the Schooley's home group. In all of her Christian service, she was a mentor and spiritual grandma to many. Sandy was a member of the International Women's Aglow, the Tri-county Quilters and the Dunbar Sewing Group. She enjoyed Christian prayer groups, reading, computer classes and courses, music, quilting, cross stitch and sewing projects.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Robert K. “Bob” Glenn, who she married June 6, 1990, in Iowa; her children, Michael McPherson and his wife, Terri, of Spanaway, Wash., Mark McPherson and his wife, Faten, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Michele McQuail and her husband, Chris, of Sag Harbor, N.Y., Keith Glenn of Grove City and Craig Glenn of Butler; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Charles T.
