Maribeth Muckian of Middlesex Township, passed away late in the evening of Saturday, April 9, 2022.

Born Feb. 13, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Martin J. Muckian and Rita J. (Wolicki) Muckian.

She is survived by her husband, David Bates; her sister, Leanne (David) Gould; her son, Brendan (Hilary) Muckian; her nephews, Devon (Robin) Gould and Lukas Gould; her niece, Alexandra (Jesse) Wilson; three precious grandchildren, Sophia, Aidan and Brody; and her very, very dear grandnieces and grandnephew, Lyla, Madelyn and Liam.

An avid bowler in her youth, Maribeth had to turn in her rental shoes one last time and focus her attention on her career and growing family. A very successful scholastic student, Maribeth was the class salutatorian of the 1977 graduating class of Quigley Catholic High School. In 1981, she graduated from Gannon University with a B.A. in industrial management and a GPA in excess of 4.0.

Maribeth began her career in manufacturing by working for two years as an inventory manager at a metal belt producer in Savannah, Ga. (think beer bottling), where her husband was stationed with the U.S. Army. For the remainder of her career, she worked as a materials manager at II-VI Inc. in Saxonburg and was responsible for managing inventory for facilities in the U.S., Singapore and China. Her travels overseas were not her favorite part of the job, but she managed to make it back home each time. Many of Maribeth’s co-workers became her best friends and were more like family to her.

Maribeth’s favorite activities were reading; attending the first weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament games with her husband, son and nephew; and acting in local stage productions. Maribeth would read a book, if just on the way to food shopping, averaging two books per week. Maribeth began attending the NCAA games in 1989, when she and her husband won the ticket lottery for the Final Four games in Seattle. She insisted on attending the 1990 first weekend games in Hartford, Conn., while pregnant with her son (UCONN had home court). This continued for almost 10 trips to watch games over the years.

Acting was Maribeth’s escape from the routine. She got the acting bug while portraying the Wicked Witch in a high school production of “The Wizard of Oz.” She continued acting in almost a dozen locally produced plays until work duties and motherhood began to take over.

Maribeth brought a certain unique view of the world to our lives and will be missed by all who knew her.

MUCKIAN — There was no public visitation, and services were private for Maribeth Muckian, who died Saturday, April 9, 2022.
