Meals on Wheels moving back home

The Butler County Meals on Wheels operations are moving back home Saturday.

Mary Pataky, executive director, said meal preparations that were moved Jan. 6 to St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church is moving back to the Meals on Wheels headquarters at St. Peter's Anglican Church on East Jefferson Street.

The move to St. Michael on Center Avenue was necessitated by a burst pipe Dec. 31 at headquarters that soaked everything with hot water, including dry food, paper products, office supplies, furniture, printers and other electronics and the floor and walls.

While the kitchen at St. Peter's was not damaged, Pataky decided to move the meal prep operations in case any dangerous particles were in the air during the drying and renovation process.

While the completion of the renovation at Meals on Wheels is still a long way off, Pataky said an air quality test performed Tuesday at St. Peter's showed no particulates or dangerous conditions in the air.

“I just wanted to be sure it was safe to come back over here,” Pataky said.

She said the Meals on Wheels office remained at St. Peter's while meal preparations spent almost two weeks at St. Michael.

“Working out of two different locations can make it trying at times,” Pataky said.

During the move Saturday, the Butler Eagle will provide a box truck and two employees to help with the heavy lifting.

Pataky plans to see the spatulas flying at the Meals on Wheels home base Monday.

“It will make it much easier for everyone involved,” she said.
