O'HARA TWP, Allegheny County — Butler County motorists who may have been traveling on Route 28 on Christmas Eve and witnessed a crash in which a young boy was ejected from a vehicle are asked to call Kittanning State Police.

Troopers say Lashelle E. Gibson, 41, of Pittsburgh, was traveling south on Route 28 near the RIDC Park off exit 10 when she took a curve too wide in an attempt to pass another car on the berm while speeding.

Gibson negotiated the turn too wide and struck the highway's center barrier, causing the vehicle to spin out of control. Her two boys, aged 8 and 9, were unrestrained in the cargo area of the vehicle.

One older child was ejected and landed about 30 feet from the vehicle and was nearly run over by other traffic.

The other child was thrown against the rear window, which caused it to shatter.

The boy who was ejected was somehow not injured and his brother sustained only a minor facial injury. The boys were transported to UPMC Childrens Hospital in Pittsburgh for evaluation.

Gibson was not injured but was found to be highly intoxicated.

“She showed multiple clues of impairment and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence,” the police report said.

Troopers also discovered that Gibson was wanted by the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office on a bench warrant for failing to appear for a hearing involving another DUI charge.

The police report said Gibson submitted to blood testing and was lodged in the Allegheny County jail.

The state police reconstruction team from the Butler barracks reconstructed the crash, which closed the southbound lanes of Route 28 for several hours, the police report said.

Multiple additional charges are pending against Gibson pending lab results and the completion of the investigation.
