9:04 p.m. Saturday - Cindy Amend, 46, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. Amend is accused of stabbing Mark Browne, 45, during a domestic dispute in their residence at 322 Brown Ave. The stabbing left Browne with a 2-inch laceration on his back. He received stitches at Butler Memorial Hospital and was released. Amend was scheduled to be arraigned today before District Judge Pete Shaffer.11:22 a.m. Thursday - Crystal Ruley, 24, of Pittsburgh was charged with writing an $84.25 bad check from a closed/unfunded bank account to the Second Time Around store on South Main Street. Ruley faces misdemeanor charges; she has two prior bad check convictions. During this incident, she provided her driver's license for identification.

7:29 a.m. Thursday - A 17-year-old unidentified male from Butler who was driving along Route 173 in Brady Township, lost control of his vehicle, striking a telephone pole, which split in half, before hitting a tree. The van spun 180 degrees before stopping. The driver sustained minor injuries while his passenger, a 15-year-old male from Butler, was not injured. Both teens were wearing seat belts. The van was towed from the scene.3:56 p.m. Aug. 18 - A car driven by Adam J. Simmer, 29, of Butler and a truck driven by Donald Waldroup of East Brady collided on Branchton Road in Cherry Township. Simmer was westbound when he rounded a sharp curve and went into the oncoming lane of traffic, where Waldroup was traveling. Debris from the accident struck a car driven by Cathy James of Oil City, who was following the truck. Simmer was charged with two counts of driving under the influence and other summary traffic violations. None of the drivers, who were wearing seat belts, were injured.6:52 p.m. Thursday - Joan Motonis, 38, of Butler was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township. Police also found her to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.12:44 a.m. Thursday - Fred Lee Norton III, 54, of Connellsville was charged with driving under the influence and driving under a suspended license following a traffic stop on Route 356 at the Hansen Avenue intersection in Butler Township.

2:45 a.m. Thursday - A car driven by Armando Navarro Medina, 24, of Ashtabula, Ohio, was northbound on Interstate 79 in Springfield Township when it traveled off the road onto the east shoulder and hit an embankment. Medina and his passenger, Julio Bumas Santiago, 26, also of Ashtabula, fled the scene. Police are investigating. Medina, who wore a seat belt, was not injured. Santiago, who was not wearing a seat belt, was slightly injured, but refused medical treatment. The car was towed from the scene.8:35 p.m. Sunday - Police took eight illegal immigrants from Mexico into custody following a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township. Salomon Mercado Cortes, 27, Rosalia Rodriguez-Bautista, 27, Salomon Mora Cortes, 49, Juana Fonseca Mercado, 48, Jose Martin Rojas-Vazquez, 24, Elisabeth Cortes-De Rojas, 23, a 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were handed over to officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

12:48 a.m. Thursday - Raymond Gargasz, 62, of Volant was arrested on two counts of driving under the influence. Police stopped Gargasz on South Center Street after he passed a marked police cruiser with his high beams on.4:15 p.m. Wednesday - A Chrysler PT Cruiser owned by Hattie Hoffman, of 204 Fleming Road, was hit by an unknown person in the parking lot of BiLo, 111 Mill St. There was minor damage to the taillight and surrounding area.Tuesday - A laptop computer owned by Dustin Kunkle of Leola and valued at $1,000 was stolen from a dorm room in Memorial Hall at Grove City College.Tuesday - Bradley Jason Wilson, 23, of 638 N. Broad St. Ext., was arrested for driving under the influence and a red light violation following a traffic stop at Walnut and East Poplar streets. Charges were filed before District Judge Lawrence Silvis in Worth Township.Monday - Derek J. Hoffman, 23, of 601 Ridgeway Ave., was arrested on charges including burglary, aggravated assault and simple assault. Charges stem from an incident that occurred at 2 a.m. last Friday in which Hoffman allegedly entered the residence of Jebediah Cook, 24, of 223½ S. Broad St., and assaulted him. Hoffman is being held in Mercer County jail.Monday - It was reported that between Aug. 1 and Sept. 4 someone broke into a storage shed at 600 Ivan Drive and took numerous fishing items owned by Barry Corner of the same address. Stolen items include minnow buckets, fishing net, tackle box with equipment and assorted fishing poles and reels. Estimated value of the items is $750.Sept. 23 - Between Sept. 15 and 22 someone took approximately 25 18-by-18 gray paving stones from 144 N. Broad St. Estimated value is $75.Sept. 20 - MaryAnn Edinger, 42, of 208 Venango Road, Boyers, was charged with theft from a motor vehicle. The charge stems from an incident that occurred Aug. 25 in which Edinger allegedly took a wallet from the vehicle of Sally Soppitt, 86, of 325 State St. while she was stopped at the drive-through speaker at Dairy Queen, 904 W. Main St.Sunday - A set of keys were turned in after being found on South Broad Street near College Avenue.3:08 a.m. Sept. 17 - Anthony Wendell Zigo, 18, of 3378 Hummingbird Lane, Sharpsville, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence; possession of drug paraphernalia; purchase, consumption, possession and transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages; and limitations on driving on the left side of the roadway. Zigo was arrested on East Main Street.10:42 p.m. Sept. 17 - Andrew J. Shoop, 19, of 327 Lincoln Ave. was arrested after someone saw him going through a car at 114 North St. Shoop was charged with loitering and prowling at night, theft from a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and underage drinking. He was lodged in jail overnight.Sept. 15 - Five gold clubs were turned into police after being found near the McDonald's Restaurant located at 200 W. Main St.1:38 p.m. Sept. 14 - A vehicle driven by Carolyn McCandless, 56, of 121 Smith Valley Road, Slippery Rock, was traveling east on West Main Street and went through a red traffic signal, striking a vehicle driven by Paul Foust, 74, of 46 Pennsy Road, Volant, which was traveling north on South Broad Street. McCandless' vehicle was towed from the scene, and she will be cited for a red light violation. No injuries were reported.11:40 a.m. Sept. 13 - A vehicle driven by Jennifer Surrena, 32, of Rinesville, W.Va., was struck by a truck operated by David Kellogg, 80, of 1223 Plain Grove Road, Volant. The accident occurred on West Main Street as Kellogg was turning his vehicle into a parking lot. No injuries were reported. Surrena's vehicle was towed from the scene. Kellogg was cited for a turning violation.Sept. 12 - A brown, Ross, 26-inch, 10-speed bicycle was turned into the police after being left in the back yard of the residence at 450 E. Main St. for several weeks. The bike is described as being in poor condition.

Tuesday - An unidentified driver rear-ended a vehicle driven by Erin Patricia Flynn, 21, of Pittsburgh on West Cooper Street. The unidentified driver had been traveling the wrong way on Midway Street and turned onto West Cooper Street, where the accident occurred. The driver then drove off.Sept. 11 - Demetrius Broadnax, 18, of Monroeville was arrested for retail theft and underage drinking. The Sheetz convenience store at 103 N. Main St. reported that Broadnax had left without paying for a Slim Jim beef stick. The incident was caught on surveillance tape. When police approached Broadnax for questioning, he was found to be in possession of a can of beer.Sept. 8 - David Owen Stowe, 31, of 834 Black Run Road, Grove City, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Stowe had been involved in a hit-and-run crash at Ginger Hill Tavern. He fled the scene in his vehicle, pursued by police. His vehicle was later located on New Castle Street. Stowe later turned himself in to police.
