Zelie man charged with assault at home

Zelienople Police arrested a township man Tuesday for assaulting a woman at their residence.

Karl Martin, 23, of Zelienople is charged with assault, harassment and criminal mischief after police received a call that he was throwing the woman’s belongings out of the home.

Arresting officer Chuck Carlson arrived at the home to find Martin on the porch. He told the officer that the woman’s belongings were inside the home.

“I observed a large pile of dressers, clothing and children’s toys at the bottom of the steps,” said Carlson in his report.

He then found the woman in an upstairs bedroom.

She said Martin had left the home after a domestic dispute earlier in the day, according to court documents. Martin later returned and began breaking her possessions and pushing her around, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The woman showed Carlson a bruise on her arm from when Martin was pushing her around, Carlson said.

“She also showed me bruises on her back from him (Carlson) pushing her against a wall,” he said.

Police officers arrested Martin and told him he could not kick the caller out, as they both live there.

Martin is in Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail. His preliminary hearing is Feb. 13.
