5:05 p.m. Monday — Charles G. Petredis, 58, of Butler allegedly slapped a 13-year-old boy in the head during an argument with the youth at West North Street and Wagner Avenue.Petredis also is accused of swinging an aluminum baseball bat at a Butler woman who tried to intervene, according to a police report.The boy told officers the suspect confronted him about the boy "picking on" Petredis' son, police said. They argued, the youth said, and Petredis tried to slap the teen in the face.But the boy said he was able to block the would-be slap. Neither the youth nor his father wanted to pursue charges against Petredis, the police report said.Police charged Petredis with simple assault and disorderly conduct.11:10 a.m. Monday — A Butler teenager riding a bicycle was hurt when she collided with a car at Penn and Broad streets. Terri Eckman, 18, was knocked off her bike and suffered minor scrapes and bruises. Judith Whitacre, 62, of Butler Township was driving the car. No charges were filed in the accident.Monday — Matthew Schenck, 29, of Butler was arrested for allegedly assaulting Amber Meier during separate domestic disputes this week at the couple's East Jefferson Street home.Police said Schenck is accused of punching Meier in the lower right jaw Sunday. The next day, he allegedly assaulted her again. Officers on Monday spoke to Meier at Butler Memorial Hospital where she was treated for pain and bruises.Meanwhile, on Monday, as Meier was driving on Route 422 near Herman Road, she called authorities to report the defendant was following her in his vehicle.He later pulled ahead of her in a no-passing zone, according to court documents, and was "stomping on his brakes" in front of her car. Police stopped Schenck's vehicle on Herman Road.A search of his vehicle, documents said, turned up a set of brass knuckles and a knife.Schenck was arraigned on charges of stalking, possessing prohibited offensive weapons, simple assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Following arraignment, he was placed in the Butler County Prison on $1,000 bail.Monday — A repeat shoplifter, Gloria J. Mastrocesare, 58, of Butler, faces a felony count of retail theft for allegedly stealing a $5 bottle of mouthwash from the Dollar General store at Pullman Square.Police found Mastrocesare lying on the ground in front of the former Shop 'n Save store in the shopping center. She was holding a large bottle of mouthwash and smelled of alcohol, according to court documents.The suspect, who showed other signs of intoxication, was unable to stand or sit up, police said.Mastrocesare is charged with felony retail theft since she has five prior shoplifting arrests and two convictions, documents said. Police also charged her with public drunkenness.

4:50 p.m. Tuesday — Cristy Rape, 40, of Butler swerved her car to avoid a piece of railroad tie at the Route 422 eastbound ramp and Route 8 North, and struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Melissa Silk, 32, of Butler.2:45 p.m. Monday — Two girls, who police did not identify, were caught shoplifting merchandise at the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons. Both girls are charged with retail theft.

1:55 p.m. Wednesday — A pickup truck driven by Thomas D. Taylor, 62, of Butler crashed into a utility pole along Route 19 near Bauder School Road in Muddy Creek Township, shearing off the pole and causing wires to fall across the road. Police said Taylor was cited for a lane violation.9:10 p.m. Tuesday — A Pittsburgh man was arrested on a warrant following a traffic stop on Route 8 near Leslie Road in Middlesex Township. Anthony M. Griffith, 18, who was wanted by the Mercer County Sheriff's Office, was placed in the Butler County Prison.Additionally, police in the same traffic stop cited Jessica M. Kerley, 22, of Pittsburgh for possession of drug paraphernalia.1:31 p.m. Tuesday — Carol J. Smeltzer, 39, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after her car struck an embankment, several mailboxes and shrubs before hitting a utility pole and rolling over along Route 68 near Silverton Drive in Oakland Township.Smeltzer, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries. Police said that in addition to DUI, she faces unspecified traffic violations.6:13 p.m. Monday — An Armstrong County woman was hurt when the pickup truck she was driving struck a utility pole and several trees along Route 268 near Gifford Lane in Fairview Township. Beth A. Croyle, 31, of Cowansville told police she lost control of the pickup after a bee blew inside and distracted her.Croyle, who was not wearing a seat belt, was treated at ACMH Hospital in Kittanning for moderate injuries and released. Police said she was cited for driving while not wearing a seat belt and driving with worn tires.7 a.m. Friday — A pickup driven by Shane R. Mortimer, 21, of Portersville hit a utility pole near the intersection of Countryview and Book roads in Worth Township. Police said Mortimer, who was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries, was cited for a lane violation.June 10 — Someone between 1:30 and 5 a.m. damaged a mailbox on Hunt Road in Clay Township.

2:30 p.m. Monday — An unidentified car struck a minivan at Main and Bear streets in Worthington, and did not stop after the crash. Roy D. Patterson, 41, of West Sunbury was driving the van.

3:05 p.m. Monday — Two people were hurt when a car driven by Floyd C. Gardner, 89, of Volant rear-ended another car at Route 208 and Old Mercer Road in Wilmington Township. Jason E. O'Conner, 34, of Grove City, the other driver, and his passenger, Alisha Cusick, 29, of Polk, Venango County, suffered minor injuries. Police said Gardner was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
