10:50 a.m. Sunday — Chattele Melnick, 29, of Butler was hurt in a two-vehicle accident on Zeigler Avenue.Police said Melnick's car was parked on the south side of the road with its door open to traffic.While Melnick was trying to remove the child safety seat from the back of her car, according to a police report, a car driven by Charles Thompson, 86, of Butler Township struck the open door.The door closed on Melnick's left foot. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Police said no charges were filed in the accident.12:42 p.m. Saturday — Dilbert Fairweather, 28, was cited for cruelty for animals after neighbors reported seeing him beat his pit bull at his home on North Chestnut Street. However, Fairweather denied the charges and told police that he was only trying to separate his two pit bulls that were fighting one another.Saturday — A blue, 12-speed Roadmaster bicycle was stolen overnight from the porch of a home in the 500 block of Center Avenue. The bike is worth $100.Saturday — An unidentified vehicle sideswiped a car parked on North Chestnut Street near West North Street. The car sustained a dent that ran the entire length of the driver's side. The side mirror also was knocked off.The hit-and-run crash happened between 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.Friday — An unidentified vehicle struck a car parked in the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue across from The Arbors apartment. The car's rear bumper was damaged in the hit-and-run crash between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
1:24 p.m. Saturday — Charles Bergeron, 18, of Butler was hurt when the car he was driving struck a utility pole along Stoney Hollow Road in Winfield Township. Bergeron, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Police said he was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.9:41 a.m. Saturday — A pickup truck driven by Paul Popp, 38, of Sutersville, Westmoreland County, and a car driven by Peter Mantzaris, 72, of Butler collided on Route 488 near the Interstate 79 on-ramp in Muddy Creek Township. Mantzaris, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Police said Popp was cited for improperly entering the road.3 a.m. Saturday — A 16-year-old Slippery Rock girl was arrested after allegedly stealing her aunt's vehicle at the owner's Countryview Road home in Worth Township. Police said the girl faces charges in juvenile court of theft of a vehicle.Saturday — An unknown thief stole unspecified property between midnight and 6:30 a.m. after breaking into four vehicles in Muddy Creek Township. The vehicles were on Hunters Hill Lane, Field Run Road and Burnside Road.Friday — Two people were arrested for driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint on Route 8 in Center Township. In all, 156 vehicles were stopped. Twelve drivers also were cited for unspecified traffic violations.Friday — A vandal or vandals caused about $1,000 in damage by spray-painting obscenities on property at the Chicora Community Park in Chicora. The vandalism happened between 6:30 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday.Friday — Two children's bicycles were stolen Thursday or Friday from the yard of a Sunbury Street home in Fairview. One of the bikes is an orange, 20-inch boy's Huffy; the other is a purple and pink, 20-inch girl's Huffy.12:36 a.m. Thursday — Jerad Soose, 26, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of DUI at Minich and Jamisonville roads in Center Township.Thursday — A blue, Cannondale hybrid, 24-speed bicycle was stolen from outside a garage at a home in the 600 block of Centerville Pike in Slippery Rock Township. The theft happened between 6 p.m. Aug. 21 and 3 p.m. Thursday.3 p.m. Aug. 21 — A sport utility vehicle driven by Joshua R. Caton, 19, of Evans City struck a tree along rain-soaked Mars-Evans City Road in Forward Township.4:05 p.m. Aug. 17 — Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle chain-reaction collision on Route 108 in Slippery Rock Township.The crash happened when an SUV driven by Theodore J. Stuck, 53, of Grove City struck the rear of a car driven by John O. Rea, 46, of Slippery Rock. The collision, in turn pushed Rea's vehicle into the back of a car driven by Joshua D. Adams, 18, of Slippery Rock.Rea and Adams, who were wearing seat belts, suffered minor injuries. Police said Stuck was cited for careless driving.Aug. 15 — An unknown thief stole 30 construction signs fitted with yellow lights on Route 138 between Routes 8 and 308 in Clay Township. The signs, valued at a combined $2,550, were taken between June 15 and Aug. 15.Aug. 15 — Someone stole 40 assorted rifle targets from the Moraine Sportsman's Association on Staff Road in Brady Township. The steel targets are white, about one-half-inch thick and cut in the shapes of animals. The theft happened between Jan. 1 and Aug. 15.
Thursday — An unknown burglar stole a propane tank from a garage at a home on Route 68 in Toby Township. The suspect used a pry bar to remove the wood door from the hinges. The break-in happened between 5:25 and 7:45 p.m.
1:01 a.m. Sunday — Cameron Bryan, 22, of Kittanning was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Route 28 at the Slate Lick exit in South Buffalo Township. Bryan's passenger, Elizabeth Matis, 28, of Kittanning, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after police allegedly found her with empty bags of suspected heroin.
Sunday — Police reported they are investigating a June 29 break-in of a West Glenora Drive home in Pine Township.Stolen from the house was a 40-inch, Vizio flat-screen, Nintendo Wii video game console, three fly fishing rods with reels, a tent, two sleeping bags and a case of Labatts beer. The stolen property is valued at $3,300.5:11 p.m. Saturday — A Beaver County man was seriously hurt when the sport utility vehicle he was driving crashed and rolled on Interstate 80 in Pine Township.Timothy M. Robison, 36, of Monaca, who was thrown out of the SUV, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh with major injuries. His passenger, Laura E. Booher, 38, also of Monaca, was take to the hospital with moderate injuries.The crash happened, police said, when the tread on one of the SUV's rear tires tore off. The vehicle spun into a guardrail and then became airborne, turning onto its roof and hitting the top of the guardrail.The SUV traveled atop the guardrail for about 18 feet before rolling down a steep embankment. Police said neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.Wednesday — Several solar landscaping lights were stolen from the yard of a home on Route 208 just east of Old Ash Road in Springfield Township. The theft happened between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. Wednesday.10:22 a.m. Tuesday — A pickup truck driven by Donald L. Stutzman, 49, of Sandy Lake backed up into the front of an SUV at Bradley and Brown roads in Worth Township, Mercer County. Police said Stutzman was cited for improperly backing a vehicle. Grace Boggs, 61, of Stoneboro was driving the SUV.
Saturday — A miter saw was taken from a garage in a burglary at a home on Mill Bridge Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Police said they have no suspects.
