3:15 p.m. Saturday — A "hysterical" call from a girl ended with a Butler man being cited for harassment and disorderly conduct, according to a police report.The caller said she and at least one other girl were walking along the railroad tracks near Kittanning Street when a man jumped out of the woods and started chasing them.The girls, who were not hurt, provided police a description of the suspect, later identified as Timothy A. Houtz, 25. Police found Houtz nearby on South Monroe Street.
2:59 p.m. Sunday — Two repeat shoplifters are again accused of the same crime for allegedly stealing a children's swing and car seat from the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons.The suspects exchanged the stolen merchandise for its value, $337.61, in the form of a store gift card, according to court documents.Tammy L. Cravener, 26, of Kittanning and Brandan F. Verner, 23, of Worthington face felony and other charges for Sunday's alleged shoplifting as well as one on April 14 at the same store where they are accused of taking a combined $315 in items.Both are charged with retail theft, conspiracy, theft by deception. Cravener also is charged with defiant trespass because he was banned from the store due to a previous shoplifting arrest.In all, documents said, Cravener has eight prior convictions for retail theft. Verner has two prior retail theft convictions.11:50 p.m. Saturday — Richard Guthrie, 29, of Butler was arrested after he refused requests by security officers to leave the Days Inn on Route 8 South. Police were called and cited Guthrie for trespass and public drunkenness.
Monday — Two 16-year-old girls were cited for curfew violation following a traffic stop at Harvard and Princeton streets. The teen driver also was cited for not having a valid license.Sunday — Police cited two youths for violating the borough's curfew ordinance while walking near Ithen Global on North Broad Street. Police also charged one of the suspects with possession of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.5:30 p.m. Thursday — A Michigan woman reported that her wallet was stolen on the Grove City College campus. The wallet turned up the next day, but it was missing cash, a gas card and bank debit card.April 7 — Someone overnight broke in and stole $150 at Filer's Auto Body on Breckenridge Street.
5:40 p.m. Sunday — Garrett S. Barnes, 23, was arrested after he allegedly hit his 21-month-old son in the head with a basketball and threatened to throw the infant against a wall during a domestic dispute at his Lake Arthur Estates home in Muddy Creek Township.Police said Barnes also is accused of twisting the arm of his wife, 21-year-old Dawn Barnes, and pushing her onto a couch while she held the infant.Barnes was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats and harassment, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.2:22 a.m. Sunday — Joseph Nava, 23, of Mercer was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on New Castle Road in Butler.2:08 a.m. Friday — Heather M. Brammell, 22, of Slippery Rock was arrested for driving under the influence at Route 173 and Ralston Road in Slippery Rock Township. Brammell also was cited for a lane violation.7:21 p.m. May 11 — Cars driven by a 16-year-old Butler girl and Angela L. Claypoole, 34, of Chicora collided on McGarvey Road in Donegal. Police cited the girl, who they did not identify, with driving at an unsafe speed.May 10 — A laptop computer, digital camera, jewelry and video game accessories were among the property stolen between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in a burglary at a Lake Arthur Estates home in Muddy Creek Township.
Monday — Unspecified property was stolen between 8 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. in a burglary at a home in the 300 block of Irishtown Road in Pine Township.3:10 p.m. Sunday — Two people were hurt when a car driven by Robert C. Vantine, 56, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, and a pickup driven by Donald M. Herbst, 49, of Sarver collided at Route 356 in Freeport.Vantine and an 8-year-old girl riding in the pickup suffered minor injuries. Police said Vantine was cited for careless driving.Saturday — An unknown vandal caused about $13,000 in damage by smashing two business signs at the Woodland Center Drive office complex in Pine Township. The vandalism occurred between 7:35 p.m. Friday and 9:05 a.m. Saturday.May 3 — Police charged Jason L. Russell, 29, of Grove City with the alleged April 28 theft of property valued at $710 from a Links Avenue home in Liberty Township.
