Eni to close Cabot plant due to business change

Employees fate, date uncertain

CABOT — Eni USA R&M Co., an Italy-based producer of auto, industrial and marine lubricants, is ceasing operations at its plant on Marwood Road.

In a statement, company spokesman Roberto Albini said idling the facility is part of a change in Eni's business model for lubricants in the United States and Canada, but he didn't say when the plant would close or how many employees would be impacted.

Sales from the Cabot plant will continue until its product inventory runs out and Eni will continue doing business in North America by importing products and forming partnerships, the statement said.

“In light of this Eni is looking for and is already in contact with interested parties for the sale of Eni USA R&M assets and/or for establishing partnerships for licensing the production and for the distribution of Eni branded lubricants in North America,” Albini said.

The main facilities of Eni USA R&M are the blending and storage plant in Cabot and a warehouse in Jane Lew, W.Va. The statement doesn't address the fate of the warehouse.

The Cabot facility sits on a 20-acre lot. The 55,000-square-foot plant includes a warehouse, a blending and packing plant, a tank park and an office building.

The warehouse in Jane Lew occupies an area of 3.4 acres and comprises two buildings of 7.000 and 400 square feet.
