Man gets probation in trespass cases

A Butler man charged in two trespassing cases was sentenced to probation in Butler County court on Thursday.

Aaron T. Thompson, 26, was sentenced to 12 months of probation by Judge Timothy McCune. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and pay court costs, as well as undergo any recommended counseling by the Butler County Adult Probation Office.

Thompson pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor defiant trespass on Dec. 4, after being charged in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, Butler Township police charged him with felony criminal trespass and summary disorderly conduct after an incident on Homewood Drive on Dec. 29.

The summary charge was later changed to a misdemeanor, to which Thompson pleaded guilty.

Police said Thompson entered a garage on Homewood Drive despite being repeatedly warned that he was not permitted there.

Township police also later charged him with felony criminal trespass and misdemeanor disorderly conduct, after an incident at the some home on Homewood Drive on March 8.

Police said Thompson was again at the home after being told he was not permitted there.

McCune also reduced Thompson's bail on a third case, in which he was charged with misdemeanor stalking and summary harassment by Butler City police following an incident on June 21. Those charges were filed after police said Thompson repeatedly followed and pestered a woman in the city.

Thompson will be released on his own recognizance pending the disposition of that case.

The victim notified police after Thompson came running up behind her on the 100 block of East Locust Street, according to court documents. She told police that Thompson had been following her around town, making comments to her and showing up at her work.

She said on one occasion he smacked her on the buttocks and ran away.
