Tuesday — A man and woman were charged with having suspected heroin and other drug contraband last month at the Super 8 motel on Route 8 south.
Police said they found Ryan Z. Wilson, 27, and Jennifer M. Smith, 29, of Butler in a room with one stamp bag of suspected heroin on Aug. 22. Additionally, according to a police report, a search of the room turned up empty stamp bags, hypodermic needles and spoons.
Wilson and Smith are both charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Monday — Terry M. Brown, 30, of Butler was charged with taking merchandise between May 2 and July 9 while he worked at the Walmart at Butler Commons. He allegedly took 28 food and drink items totaling $64.49.
Police said he is also accused of taking $60 in currency that a customer mistakenly left behind.
Brown is charged with theft of mislaid or lost property and 28 counts of retail theft.
Monday — Police charged Sanya L. Vantassel, 41, of Butler was having suspected heroin and other contraband following a call for suspicious activity earlier this month on Route 8 south. Police said she was a passenger in a vehicle that police stopped shortly after 2:40 a.m. Sept. 10.
Vantassel is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and false identification to law enforcement authorities.
Police also charged the driver, Vincent M. Yandura, 33, of Butler with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.
10 p.m. Sunday — Michelle L. Fortini, 39, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting $163.11 in merchandise at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Fortini is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.
[naviga:h3]Saxonburg Police[/naviga:h3]
11:02 p.m. Sept. 17 — Samantha A. Goepfert, 32, of Saxonburg was arrested for driving drunk with her two children on West Main Street. Police said they initially stopped her for a lane violation and for having an expired registration.
The officer got to Goepfert’s car and noticed her children in the back seat, according to court documents. Butler County Children and Youth Services was called to care for the children. They were later turned over to their father.
Police said the defendant appeared impaired and she subsequently failed field sobriety tests. She was unable to provide a breath sample “due to impairment,” documents said.
Goepfert was arraigned on two counts of child endangerment, driving under the influence, driving without a license, disregarding traffic lanes and driving an unregistered vehicle. She was placed in Butler County Prison on $2,000 bail following arraignment.

Thursday — Police charged a Clarion County man with drunken driving in connection with a one-car crash last month in Fairview Township. The defendant, Kyler J. Bastian, 23, of East Brady, shortly before 10:35 p.m. Aug. 27 lost control of his car, which ended on its roof at the bottom of a hillside on Fairmont Road.
Medics were tending to Bastian in an ambulance when police got there. He admitted he had “too much to drink that evening,” according to a police affidavit, “before driving.”
Bastian was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.112 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law. He also had marijuana in his system.
Bastian is charged with driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, DUI, disregarding traffic lanes and driving at an unsafe speed.
2:26 p.m. Sept. 16 — Richard E. Humes Jr., 29, was allegedly found with an uncapped syringe and other drug contraband at his Slippery Rock Township apartment where two young children were also present.
Police said they were called after a parole officer made the discovery at Humes’ home on the 300 block of East Water Street. The officer reported that he found the defendant’s children, ages 9 and 5, according to court documents, as well three syringes, one which was without a cap on it.
Also found was suspected marijuana, a bong, drug-smoking devices, a scale, two marijuana grinders and rolling papers.
Humes was arrested and later arraigned on two counts of child endangerment and charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Following arraignment he was placed in Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail in the case.
