Bail reduced for Butler man charged with firing gun in city
Bail for a Butler man accused of firing shots into the air on West Diamond Street was reduced from $100,000 to $25,000 on Monday.
Luis D. Rivera, 32, is charged with felony prohibited possession of a firearm, misdemeanor reckless endangerment and summaries disorderly conduct and public drunkenness for the June 16 incident, according to charging documents.
Rivera, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge William T. Fullerton.
Police said the shots were fired around 5 a.m. as a result of an altercation.
Upon arrival, officers said Rivera was attempting to get into a vehicle on Beckert Avenue, and a semiautomatic handgun was found on the vehicle’s front tire.
One witness told police Rivera had struck her in the mouth during a fight on the front porch of a West Diamond Street residence. The woman was bleeding from the mouth, officers said.
The altercation escalated when Rivera allegedly fired shots into the air, police said. No one was injured.
When Rivera was taken into custody, police said a 9 mm bullet casing was found in his pocket.
Documents showed Rivera is not permitted to possess a firearm due to a burglary conviction in 2014.
