When you think about it, history is simply made up of yesterdays.

Butler residents will see history unfold this weekend with the launch of an arts and cultural district. The Rotary Club project has been years in the making and pools together the arts community within a geographical location downtown.

The Butler Cultural District launch provides opportunity to support your creative neighbors in a new way, not to mention the cultivation of Butler as a whole, from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in downtown Butler.

Listen to local performers, tour the Butler Art Center or the stained glass of local churches and experience what the art community has to offer. For ticket information and a full schedule, visit butlerculturaldistrict.org.

If you can’t make it downtown Saturday, there’s plenty to do the rest of the weekend.

The Butler Little Theatre’s rendition of “Social Security” by Andrew Bergman continues through Saturday night. Be sure to get your tickets at butlerlittletheatre.com.

Butler Art Center’s Nature and Wildlife show celebrates sunsets, wildlife, flowers and more in a plethora of mediums. An opening reception lasts from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at 344 S. Main St.

Homebrews ’n Blues kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, and lasts all weekend. Cooper’s Lake Campground, 205 Currie Road, Slippery Rock, will be packed with blues bands and local breweries during the event.

The curtain rises on the Musical Theatre Guild’s “The Marvelous Wonderettes” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7. For tickets and more information, visit www.mtgbutler.org.

Jennings Environmental Education Center is offering a self-guided fall foliage tour from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. Experience not only trees but also bird migration patterns and magnificent color.

A Family Hike at Moraine State Park will leave from McDanel’s boat launch at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. Lasting roughly 90 minutes and covering three miles, park officials encourage you to dress for the weather, stay hydrated, and pack snacks. This is a hike for all ages along the North Country Trail!

EDCO Park in Evans City is hosting a Trunk or Treat from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. Books from Stella's Book Nooks will be given to children in addition to non-food treats. Attendees are asked to utilize street parking.

The Spook-A-Pawlooza benefits the Humane Society Police Officer, who helps the abused and neglected animals of Butler County. Visit 100 Pullman Park Place, Butler, from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, to participate in the pet parade, pet painting, family activities and food vendors.

The Walk Your Way walk supports NAMI’s mission to reduce the stigma against mental illness from 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at 182 Alameda Park Road. Walk and support by visiting www.namiwalks.org.

The Family Fun Day at Slippery Rock Park will be filled with festive activities for all ages from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. From kickball to face painting, hay rides and sack races, all this is at your fingertips for $10.

Saxonburg Fireman’s Club line dance night starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at 155 Pittsburgh St. Those attending must be 21 years old or older!

From noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, Creekfest will have free food, drinks and entertainment at Rock Falls Park on Stoughton Beach Road, Slippery Rock. Donations will be collected and T-shirts sold to benefit the Save Slippery Rock Creek mission. Those interested in the 9:30 a.m. kayak float on the creek should meet at Crestview Road.
