In an indirect manner, drugs the state police found in 2020 in a Winfield Township home has led to new charges filed Wednesday against a man imprisoned in Forest County.

State police filed charges against Tyrique M. Craighead, 29, of McKees Rocks, including one felony count drug sales and one misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia, related to a 2020 search of the man’s then home on Bear Creek Road.

Craighead remains in state prison in Forest County serving a sentence from an unrelated case in 2020.

Craighead is serving a sentence of four to eight years in Forest County after entering a guilty plea Jan. 28 in Allegheny County. He pleaded to felony counts of aggravated assault an illegally possessing a gun, for an incident on June 27, 2020.

According to charging documents, Pittsburgh police asked state police to assist with a search July 14, 2020. Pittsburgh police had believed Craighead was connected to a shooting in the city.

State police said during the search, officers found clothing matching the description of those worn by Pittsburgh police’s suspect. Police said 20 full stamp bags of heroin and fentanyl, 99 empty pill capsules, a digital scale and $30,000 in cash were also found.

Pittsburgh police notified troopers Dec. 22, 2020, that they were not pursuing drug charges related to the search.

“At that time, I was assigned this investigation involving all drugs, paraphernalia and cash seized in the residence,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.

Police said they took custody of the drugs Dec. 28, 2020, and the drugs were sent to a lab for confirmation.

Craighead has yet to be arraigned on the Butler County charges, which were filed through District Judge Sue Haggerty’s office. Following arraignment, Craighead will be scheduled for a preliminary hearing.
