September crash resulting in recent charges
State police filed charges Monday against a Butler man they say drove recklessly causing serious injuries to his passengers during a crash in September.
Thomas W. Parker, 19, is charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault, one for each of his passengers, as well as six traffic violations.
Following his arraignment Monday morning by District Judge Lewis Stoughton, he was released on his own recognizance.
The charges stem from troopers’ investigation into a Sept. 30 crash on Parker Pike near its intersection with Allegheny Church Road, Allegheny Township. Police said the crash site was near a hill on a straight stretch of road. Police said the crash happened in clear, daylight conditions.
“Investigation determined the vehicle was traveling at an excessive speed at the time of the crash,” police said.
Police said the vehicle went off the right berm and hit a tree and the force from hitting the tree sent the vehicle across the road and off the left side of the road, where the car hit a second tree and rolled over.
“Three of the four passengers were transported to hospitals by EMS and LifeFlight services with serious bodily injuries,” police said.
Parker is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Aug. 16 before Stoughton.
