Ronald McPherson
Ronald D. "Ron" McPherson, 86, of Butler, passed away on Feb. 16, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 14, 1935, in Reynoldsville, Pa., and was the son of the late Ralph E. McPherson and the late Eula E. Snyder McPherson.
Ron proudly served in the USAF Strategic Air Command in Columbus, Ohio, and Newfoundland. He was a computer technician when he retired from United Telephone/Sprint in 1997, after 39 years.
He attended the First Baptist Church of Butler.
Ron was active in a variety of sports, throughout his lifetime. Butler High School sports that he competed in were football, baseball and diving. He played on the Air Force baseball team, was a member of Weightlifters for Christ, and enjoyed hunting with his son and great-grandson. For many years, he and Peg enjoyed square-dancing, round-dancing, and waltzing to their favorite, “The Tennessee Waltz.” They both enjoyed bowling, golfing and shuffleboard.
Ronald is survived by his son, Timothy A. (Tonya) McPherson of Butler; three daughters, Sandra (Fred) Kriess of Glendale, Ariz., Susan (Hank) Voorhees of Grove City, and Mary (Heskil) Whitaker of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Dirk Pickett of Butler; one sister-in-law, Mildred Sutton of Butler; one brother, John (Bonnie) McPherson of Butler; and two sisters, Connie (Donald) McElhany of Fenelton and Mary Margaret "Marg" Covert of Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Margaret "Peg" Jean McPherson, whom he married on July 6, 1955, and who passed away on March 9, 2020; one infant son; one daughter, Ronda Pickett; and three brothers.
MCPHERSON — Friends of Ronald D. "Ron" McPherson, who died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., Butler, with Pastor David Maitland officiating.
Officers and members of the American Legion Post 117, American Legion Post 778 and the VFW Post 249 will conduct military services after the funeral at the First Baptist Church.
Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Slippery Rock Baptist Camp, 130 Elliott Lane, Slippery Rock, 16057.
