William Mayfield
William “Coy” Mayfield, 65, of Noel, Mo., passed away on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, in the comfort of his home with family at his side.
Coy was born April 4, 1956, in Fairfield, Ill., and was raised by his late mother, Janet Tompkins, and stepfather, John Tompkins, along with his late father, William “Coy” Mayfield Sr. He grew up in Butler, where he attended Butler High School.
Coy was united to the love of his life, Karen Monnie, on July 14, 1977.
Coy was a patriotic, traditional man, who always had some great adventure in the works, whether it be a new challenge at his machine shop, or sightseeing outdoors at a historic site, or in the yard with a metal detector.
Coy enjoyed classic cars and Sunday drives, and he had a never-ending fascination with flying. He never met a stranger, and would go out of his way to help anyone. He was a loyal friend to many, and made a large imprint on many lives.
He was a wonderful father of two children, and grandfather to four grandchildren. Coy was an admirable son and big brother, a true caretaker for all, always putting the needs of others before his own.
In addition to his parents, Coy was preceded in death by a half-brother, William “Crawdad” Mayfield; his stepbrothers, John Tompkins Jr. and Robert Tompkins; and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Mayfield of Noel, Mo.; a son, Matthew Mayfield of Noel, Mo.; a daughter, Sarah Shoemaker (William) of Gravette, Ark.; a sister, Laurie Shafer of Cloverdale, Ind.; his brothers, Michael Mayfield (Judy) of Green Forest, Ark., and Randy Mayfield (Rebecca) of Carrollton, Ark.; his sisters, Elizabeth Kienzynski (Robert) of Cloverdale, Ind., Rebecca Laden of Green Forest, Ark., and Amy Ledesma of Green Forest, Ark.; his stepbrothers, Alan “Lee” Tompkins (Marcia) of Pikesville, Tenn., and Frederick Dean Tompkins of Butler; and a host of extended family and friends.
