Monks

Gary L. Monks Sr., 84, of Butler, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Newhaven Court at Clearview.

Born Nov. 6, 1941, in Butler, he was a son of the late Arthur and Marion Monks.

Gary served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and he was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard for six years. He retired in 2002 from AK Steel.

He is survived by two sons, Gary L. Monks Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, of Butler, and David A. Monks, of Howland, Ohio; one daughter, Kellie A. Laraba and her husband, Forest W. Laraba II, of Beckley, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta Jean Rauschenberger Monks; and two brothers.

MONKS — There will be no visitation for Gary L. Monks Sr., who died Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, in North Side Cemetery, Butler, with Gary’s daughter, Kellie Laraba, officiating.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by American Legion Post 778, VFW Post 249 and VFW Post 499.
