Rose A. Steighner

Rose A. Mentzer Steighner, 96, of Butler, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 27, 2021, at the Lowrie Place in Butler.

Born in Summit Township, Butler County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Knittel and Rose (Hartel) Knittel.

Rose had worked as a press operator at Du-Co Ceramics, retiring in 1990 after 25 years.

During World War II, she worked at the Bantam Car Co.

She had been a member St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, and also All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

Rose enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening and flower gardening.

Surviving are her son, Gilbert (Marlene) Mentzer of Renfrew; two daughters, Mildred (Gordon) Ball of Greensboro, N.C., and Shirley Spinneweber of Butler; one stepdaughter, Kathy (Steve) Zanicky of Butler; two grandchildren, Parker and Alec Spinneweber; seven stepgrandchildren, Tina Thrash, Kevin Ball, and Gina, Michael, Maria, Anna and Joel Zanicky; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Cole, Ben and Taylor Thrash, and Kylie Ball; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James M. Mentzer, who died in 1991, and Harry J. Steighner, who died in 2005; one son, James Mentzer Jr.; and four sisters, Gertrude, Helen, Mary and Mildred.

STEIGHNER — Private viewing and services for Rose A. Mentzer Steighner, who died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, were held for her family.

Burial was in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Herman.

Arrangements were handled by Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
