Frederick Emigh

Frederick Mark Emigh, 71, of Slippery Rock, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the Grove City Medical Center after a courageous three-week battle with COVID-19.

Born Dec. 21, 1949, in Colver, Pa., he was the son of the late Saul and Marjorie Isobel (Reighard) Emigh.

He was affiliated with GraceWay Community Church in Butler.

He attended Butler Area schools and the Butler County Community College.

Frederick was employed as a police officer for over 25 years, retiring as the chief of police from Slippery Rock Borough on Jan. 20, 2009. Before he became a police officer, Frederick was employed as a welder for Pullman Standard for 15 years. He was a Pennsylvania certified DUI instructor for the Butler Alcohol Countermeasures Program for 30 years.

His memberships included National Association for the Chiefs of Police, American Legion Post 393, Moose Lodge 64, and a life member of the Elks Lodge 170, Victory Lodge 272 F&AM, lifetime member of the NRA, Syria Shriners, AASR Valley of New Castle, The Pennsylvania DUI Association, and a long-standing member of the Masons and the Slippery Rock Sportsman Club. He was an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Parks and Recreation Env/Edu for many years in law enforcement.

Fred was the recipient of two Senate Citations, resulting from his tireless work for Butler County MADD Chapter, and he also received the Christopher Geist Award.

Left to cherish his memory is LaLanda Emigh-Stromp, his beloved wife of 23 years; along with his treasured pets, Lil’ Bit, Snowy, Spooky, Shadow, Miss Polly Grey, Leo and Miss Kitty.

Also surviving are his sisters, Marjorie (George) Yost and Joyce (Bob) Moore; his brother, Bob (Jeryl) Emigh; his niece, Rebecca (Jeff) Daw; his nephews, David (Amy) Goslaw, Stephen (Kimberly) Goslaw, and Jared, Zachary and Nathan (Nakia) Emigh; his great-nieces, Brittany Myers, Rachel and Rebecca Goslaw, and Madison Daw; his great-nephews, Garett (Becca) Goslaw and Christopher (Freya) Daw; and his great-great-niece and great-great-nephew, Harper Grace Daw and Rowan Everett Myers.

Our hearts are broken and our world has been greatly diminished by his untimely death. Still, we have been immeasurably blessed by having been a part of his life. Fred was a friend to all. He was known for his kind heart and gentle spirit. His heart of gold was generous to a fault. Fred’s life touched many. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him.

EMIGH — Family and friends of Frederick Mark Emigh, who died Wednesday, May 19, 2021, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. with Dr. David West officiating.
