Dorothy Kriley
Dorothy V. Kriley, 94, of Newhaven Court at Clearview, Butler, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.
Born Dec. 11, 1926, in Butler, she was a daughter of Salvatore and Leonora DeTullio DiFoggia.
A 1945 graduate of Butler High School, Dorothy graduated in 1948 from the University of Pittsburgh Pharmacy School. She was co-owner and operator of Prescription Pharmacy on Center Avenue in Butler. She was a pharmacist for 50 years and retired in 1998.
She was a member of the National Association of Retail Druggists and the Butler, Allegheny and Pennsylvania pharmaceutical associations. She implemented the Mr. Yuk poison prevention program and the Vial of Life program locally.
In addition to her professional career, Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother and a tireless church and community volunteer.
She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She belonged to the Ladies of Charity of St. Michael, as well as the parish’s 55 & Alive, Rosary Makers, and Bereavement Group.
She was a member of, and held leadership positions with, several local organizations, including Soroptimist International of Butler County, Quota Club, YWCA, American Association of University Women, Mental Health Association in Butler County, Butler Chapter American Red Cross, Association of Retarded Citizens of Butler County, and the GFWC Women’s Club.
She volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and her service continued with the Butler County Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board, the Butler County Symphony Association, Volunteers in Medicine of Butler County, and the Butler County Health and Human Services Council.
In 1999, she co-chaired the successful capital campaign for the renovation of the Mental Health Association in Butler County’s building on North Elm Street in Butler.
In recognition of her service, Dorothy was named the YWCA Woman of the Year in 1991; the AAUW Woman of the Year in 1996; and, in 2006, she received the Woman of Distinction in the Community award from Soroptimist International of Butler County.
Surviving are her five children, Mrs. Todd (Michelle) Tripucka, of Boonton, N.J., Cynthia Kriley, of Aiken, S.C., Michael R. Kriley, of Fair Lawn, N.J., Patrick J. Kriley, of Doylestown, Pa., and Mrs. Robert (Regina) Rose, of Simsbury, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Regis H. Kriley, who passed away March 2, 2001; five brothers, Anthony DeFoggi, James DeFoggi, Joseph DeFoggi, Albert DeFoggi, and Arthur DeFoggi; and four sisters, Laura Yates, Anna Serventi, Betty Spagnola and Lucille Sarteschi.
Kriley — There was no public visitation for Dorothy V. Kriley, who died Thursday, April 29, 2021. A private blessing service was held with the Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.
Burial took place in St. Mary Cemetery, Herman.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Avenue, Butler.
