Butler Township planners approve pickleball courts
BUTLER TWP — The township's planning commission Tuesday approved a township land development plan to build three pickleball courts in Butler Township Park.
Commission members unanimously voted in favor of the plan. Township commissioners will consider final approval at their June 11 meeting.
No completion date has been announced.
The three courts, measuring a total of 96-by-69-feet, will be enclosed by an 8-foot-tall fence and built adjacent to the dek hockey rink. The courts will not be lighted.
Stormwater from the courts will flow into an existing retention pond.
“Pickleball seems to be the popular sport,” said Jesse Hines, zoning officer. “It's fun.”
Solicitor Rebecca Black said pickleball courts have been built in Slippery Rock.
Ron Henshaw, board chairman, said there is a pickleball club in Cranberry Township.
