Main Street demolition still upcoming, but no clear timeline available
Despite some delays, work toward the demolition of 123 S. Main St. in Butler is still ongoing, city officials clarified at a Monday, Aug. 31 meeting.
City Mayor Bob Dandoy previously said at an Aug. 18 land bank meeting asbestos abatement was underway and the demolition was expected for completion by Sept. 4. However, that timeline has shifted.
“They were supposed to be in there today,” he said during the Aug. 31 meeting. “We’re not sure what work was being done.”
He said he’s driven by the property and didn’t see much activity from the exterior. However, he was assured the work is continuing.
Dandoy previously said demolition will take about a week and require some cleanup time afterward. It is unclear to officials when the demolition or clean up is expected to be complete.
Once the property is ready, it will be transferred to the city’s land bank and become its responsibility to determine what to do with it next.
