Slippery Rock Area School District administrators will temporarily oversee operations at Moraine Elementary after its principal voluntarily transferred to a newly created online learning position.

The school board approved the voluntary transfer of Kristie Shulsky to principal of online learning at its Monday, Aug. 31, meeting, a position it created at the same meeting.

“This evening, the Slippery Rock Area School District school board voted to approve the voluntary transfer of Dr. Shulsky to the position of principal of online learning. Dr. Shulsky will begin her new duties tomorrow, Sept. 1,” an email sent to parents read. “Moraine Elementary will be supervised administratively by district administrators until an interim principal is approved by the school board.”

The transfer follows a period of controversy surrounding Shulsky’s tenure at Slippery Rock. Shulsky was put on leave in April 2024 and officially terminated in January 2025.

However, the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education issued an order six months later reinstating Shulsky as Moraine’s principal. According to the secretary’s opinion, the district charged Shulsky with immorality, intemperance, cruelty and insubordination but failed to prove any of the allegations.

Shulsky’s attorney characterized the decision as finding the allegations to be false, and the district having no legitimate basis for termination of employment.

Shulsky also sued several individuals related to her dismissal for defamation.
